This is the response I got when I asked if their pretzels were vegan:

Thank you for your interest in Auntie Anne's Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzel products. We welcome and appreciate the input from our customers so that we may continually improve our system and respond to their needs and suggestions.

In response to your question about vegan/vegetarians, the pretzel mix does not contain any ingredients from animal, dairy or egg sources; however, there are other factors to consider. Most of the dips, some of the toppings (i.e., parmesan herb, sour cream & onion), _Mocha Dutch Ice, Dutch Treat products, plus the pretzels that are dipped in butter would contain ingredients that would be from animal sources (primarily milk or dairy related). Overall, though, there are several of our pretzels that you can enjoy (Original, Whole Wheat, Cinnamon Sugar, Garlic, Jalapeno, Glazin' Raisin, etc.) that would not contain any ingredients from animal sources provided that they are requested without butter. A secondary alternative with consumers in a situation as yours would be to use one of our At Home Pretzel Kits (available in most stores). This product allows you, the consumer, to prepare the product under your own control, in the privacy of your house, and still have the enjoyment of the product. The ingredients for this product are listed on the side of the package and does not contain any ingredients from animal sources.

Once again, thank you for you interest in Auntie Anne's products, and if you have any other questions or comments, please contact us. Have a great day!!

awesome!
just out of curiosity, how long did they take to get back to you?

I just checked my email, and it took 7 days.

that isn't bad i think for corporate responses. they seemed pretty nice and accomodating. i dont know what you initially said, but they seemed to get the whole "no EGG and no DAIRY" thing. which some places don't get. thanks for looking into this. :)

stay away from the marinara dip. it has gelatin in it... or did the last time i checked anyway. i almost (thoughtlessly) dipped and then looked at the ingredient list at the last second.

weird.

that's what i thought. i was so shocked and disappointed that i barely enjoyed my pretzel.

I usually check marinaras for cheese - but gelatin?

Just bizarre. Good to know for future reference, though.

Thanks! Yours is rockin' too - I was really obsessed with the first run of Power Rangers and had a bigtime crush on Trini.

Oh those drunken days...

:P

Also, if there are any plain vegetarians in here, the cheese dip has anchovies in it. Yuck.

yeah, i don't eat cheese, but seriously, GROSS!

I don't get it... just what do anchovies add to cheese dip or gelatin to marinara... I just want to know *why* companies feel the need to add these seemingly superfluous things!

it's been ages since i went and got me an auntie anne's pretzel.

I always get an Auntie Anne's pretzel when I'm at the mall. I usually have to wait 5-8 mins for them to bake off some non-buttered pretzels but they are always accommadating and I am always willing to wait for a fresh baked pretzel with regular yellow mustard.....Drool....I so want a pretzel right now!

PS The frozen super pretzels available at most grocery stores are also vegan. Heat them up in the microwave, squirt with water, sprinkle with the salt and eat with Road's End Nacho Chreese or just yellow mustard......oh how I want this right now!!!!!!!!

Ha! I do the same thing.

The really nice bit about asking for a pretzel with no butter on it is knowing that it's TOTALLY FRESH.

Personally, I like the garlic kind, but mustard is good too.

Great. Now I'm hungry.

Awesome! Usually I'll make pretzels at home and dip them in soy margarine. Time consuming but they end up tasting amazing. Good to know that we can go to the mall and get some yummy pretzels sans butter.
