Expired almond milk?
27th-Oct-2009 11:18 pm
I <3 TLV
I was given three boxes of almond milk - they're sealed, but the expiration date is May '09. Are they safe to drink? I definitely wouldn't drink them if they had been opened, but since they're sealed I'm not sure. Thanks.

Risk vs Reward. I would throw them out.

'Expiration' date, or 'best before' date?

If it's the latter, they may be salvageable . . . but then again I'm the type who eats anything that doesn't have mould on it, so I'm probably not the best person to ask =)

I'm a terrible person to ask. I'd just taste them and see. Wheeee!

Me too! Almond milk is expensive!

I'd try it.

Hahaha, same.

I would open one, pour a little into a glass, and sniff it. Same as I always do to check questionable milk. I never know what's going on with the soy in this house.

If I ever had any doubt, I'd be too scared to try.

OOooh, oooh! You can post this in can_i_eat_this!

I would probably shake it, pour some into a glass, look at it and smell it. If everything seemed normal I'd go ahead and use it.

this. i've consumed open cartons of almond and soy milk way past their expiration dates, and i'm still here.

it's pretty easy to tell when almond milk is bad. it gets really thick and nasty. just open one and check it out.

ditto the smell test first and then taste test .. i've never had a problem with sealed boxed veganmilks, even a year and half after "best before". : )
