What do you think about the people who silently thank the animals before a meal for giving their lives so they—the humans—could be nourished?

Disturbingly, there are a lot of people like that.

The Animal Kill Counter

It baffles me. As if thanking the poor animal means they died some noble meaningful death. Humans do not need to kill to eat and to say an animal "gave it's life..." makes me see red. No this poor turkey or cow or chicken or pig lived a short, filthy, painful and sad life so humans would have something tasty to shove in their gobs.

That's my 2 cents.

I think they probably like to pat themselves on the back and feel spiritual and grateful and shit, while in reality they are lying to themselves because the non-human animals they eat do not give their lives. They are taken.

That's what gets me. I guess it's good to be grateful/aware of where your food comes from, but... people speak of it like it's some ~noble sacrifice~ that was willingly made. It didn't "give its life", somebody took it, probably quite horribly.
